Sifnos has no airport, which means that your slow holiday will start by sea whether you come from Athens or you come from other islands.
You may choose between a high-speed ferry or catamaran reaching quickly Sifnos or you may decide for a slower trip, and in this case you should take a conventional ferry and enjoy a small cruise in the Aegean on your way to Sifnos.
Connections from and to Pyraeus
The main connections are with Pyraeus, the port of Athens.
During Summer there are daily connections between Pyraeus and Sifnos.
Travel duration
- 2-3 hours by high-speed ferry or catamaran
- 5 hours and half with the convetional ferry
Timetable and Gates of departure are well indicated by many electronic screens all over the port area. There is free Wi-Fi in all port area.
If you arrive in Athens by plane you can easily get to the center of the city or to the port of Pyraeus:
The bus X96 takes you to the port of Pyraeus in 75 minutes.
The ticket costs 5 euros.
The metropolitan train (station at 300 metres on the left of the arrival hall). The ticket costs 8 euros but you may find cheaper tickets for groups of more than two people. The train reaches the center of Athens but if you want go to the port of Pyraeus you must change at Monastiraki and take the line 1 to Pyraeus.
The taxi will cost around 35 or 40 euros to Athens and 50 euros to Pyraeus.
Connections from and to other islands
With the island of SANTORINI there are one daily connections with catamaran and the travel duration is 3 hours.
Santorini is connected to Athens by many daily flights.
During the holyday season many charter flights connect Santorini to several European cities.
With the islands of MILOS and SERIFOS there are daily connections.
The travel duration to/from Milos is 50 minutes by high-speed ferry or catamaran and 1 hour and a half by conventional ferry.
In Milos there is an airport with flights to/from Athens.
The travel duration to/from Serifos is 30 minutes by high-speed ferry or catamaran and 50 minutes by conventional ferry.
With the islands of FOLEGANDROS, SIKINOS the connections are three times a week during the holiday season.
The travel duration is:
to/from Folegandros 2 hours-2 hours and a half
to/from Sikinos around 3 hours
With the islands of PAROS and SIROS the connections (only by conventional ferry) are three times a week during the holiday season.
The travel duration is:
to/from Paros 3 hours and a half.
To/from Siros 3 hours if taking the more direct ferry.
Also Paros and Siros have daily flights to/from Athens.
From this year a there are one daily connections with catamaran with the island KOUFOUNISSI one of the Small Cyclades. The travel duration is 2 hours
